CHIDIOGO - UNCONVENTIONALLY BEAUTIFUL.

“Hello! My name is Chidiogo… I have loved your pieces and wanted to see if you are interested in a project I would like to have ready for the end of May”.

This was the beginning of what would be an interesting journey towards creating the perfect ankara-infused wedding dress for the most patient and most beautiful soul that I found to be Chidiogo.

It was February when we first started speaking and she would not be in Nigeria until May, so it was important that she would be happy with the end result as she would not be physically available for most of the process. We went back and forth on sketches and mock-ups which did not thrill her, but I and my team remained committed to making sure that she would be happy.

When I finally met Chidiogo in the last week of May, it was with her brother and her handsome groom Andrew. Two things struck me immediately: first how truly beautiful she is both inside and outside, and second the warmth and purity of the love that was radiating between herself and Andrew. It was clear that these two were made for each other and somehow, through the chaos, mess, and uncertainty that can sometimes be life, they had found each other.

Of course it would also be the first time she was setting eyes on her dress and trying it on, so we would need to do a few fittings to get it exactly where she wanted it, but I can’t count the number of times she gave me goosebumps at her fittings. She was always so lively, and happy, and laughing, and thankful! I could sense that there was something remarkable about her. I remember the joy that filled my heart when at the second fitting she shrieked with excitement “THIS IS IT! THIS IS IT! WE’VE GOT MY DRESS!” while jumping up and down and laughing! This memory still makes me smile.

“The dress was flawless.”

Words every designer longs to hear from a client, almost more satisfying than getting paid (but we still have bills to pay. Lol!). Still is this not what it’s ultimately about? And it was evident from the pictures that she not only looked beautiful, but most importantly felt beautiful. Completely unaffected by societal norms and expectations, Chidiogo and Andrew chose to do their big day their way!

So how do you create the perfect unconventional wedding dress for the beautiful unconventional bride? With some imagination, a dash of tradition, a lot of patience, and tons of love.

Dear Chidiogo, thank you for trusting us to make your dream dress a reality. We wish you and Andrew only amazing things as you both begin this new chapter of your lives.

Love,
